Heartland Camera Jibs would like to congratulate Indie Filmmaker James
Syrek from Chicago, winner of the ‘Give Your Camera Wings’ contest.
James is also a Professor of Screenwriting at DePaul
University in Chicago. He is directing a short film entirely on
location in North Vernon, Indiana and Muscatatuck [military base], Indiana.
“Indiana has been an amazing experience for me. A lifelong Chicagoan,
I have spent the last six months driving back and forth on the
weekends location scouting, meeting people, and
spending time away from home putting this project together from the
ground up.” Syrek wrote in his entry.
“IFN (Indiana Filmmaker’s Network) has been supportive and we've hired
over half our crew so far locally also.”
He went on to describe how only a jib could capture the shot in his head.
“...and we were searching for a jib to capture this one beautiful
shot. The opening shot of the movie. An opening jib shot that
establishes the beautiful expansive forest scenery, then tilts down to
a man standing on the ledge of the bridge, about to jump. I can't
think of another way I want to start the movie. In my mind, it has to
be this shot...” Syrek said.
“Without it, the opening of the movie will not pack the wow factor
this jib shot could bring. And we know the power of a compelling
opening shot.” he added.
The film entitled ‘Syncope’ is being shot on Red camera and will serve
as a springboard for a full length feature Syrek is currently writing.
Filming of ‘Syncope’ will take place later this month.
We will post more information and photos of the shoot on Facebook. Stay tuned.
